You will work at the interface of laser technology, optics, plasma physics, electronics, mechanics and system engineering, collaborating closely with internal engineering teams, external technology partners and international development organizations.
This is an applied R&D position with a strong focus on developing technically feasible solutions that can ultimately be integrated into next-generation semiconductor inspection systems.
Your Responsibilities
- Develop and improve laser-sustained plasma light source concepts and architectures.
- Drive the further development of lamp house and optical system concepts.
- Investigate opportunities to improve optical performance, light output and overall system stability.
- Work on approaches to extend the usable spectrum, particularly toward the UV and VUV range.
- Support feasibility studies and translate technical concepts into practical system solutions.
- Develop and evaluate concepts for high-power laser systems, beam focusing and optical setups.
- Analyze and optimize parameters such as plasma stability, plasma size and light output.
- Collaborate with specialists in optics, electronics, mechanics, plasma simulation, cooling and manufacturing.
- Support prototype development, laboratory testing, qualification and system integration.
- Define and communicate technical requirements to external suppliers and development partners.
- Support optical design, tolerancing, simulation and technical verification activities.
- Coordinate technical work packages and contribute to project planning and development schedules.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement and further evolution of existing light source technologies.
Your Profile
- Degree in Physics, Optical Engineering, Photonics, Laser Technology, Electrical Engineering or a comparable technical discipline.
- Professional experience in laser technology, optics, photonics or complex optical systems.
- Practical experience with the development, testing and integration of laser or optical systems.
- Good understanding of optical design, beam propagation, optical measurements and/or laser system development.
- Experience working with interdisciplinary engineering teams across areas such as optics, mechanics, electronics and software.
- Experience with high-power lasers, diode laser systems, optical setups or laboratory measurement systems is highly desirable.
- Experience with plasma technology, light sources or semiconductor equipment is advantageous.
- Ability to analyze complex technical problems and develop practical solutions.
- Experience with optical simulation and/or programming for technical analysis and laboratory automation is a plus.
- Experience coordinating external suppliers or technical development partners is beneficial.
- Structured and independent working style with the ability to take ownership of technical work packages.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in an international, interdisciplinary environment.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to international development locations and technology partners.
Technical Environment
The development work includes technologies such as:
- Laser-sustained plasma light sources
- High-power lasers and diode laser pumps
- Xenon lamps and plasma generation
- Optical benches and beam focusing
- Optical design and tolerancing
- Plasma stability and light-output optimization
- Lamp house architecture
- Electronics and control systems
- Cooling concepts for high-power systems
- Optical simulation and laboratory measurement systems
- Prototype qualification and system integration
What We Offer
- The opportunity to work on advanced optical and laser technologies for semiconductor inspection.
- An interdisciplinary environment combining physics, optics, laser technology, electronics, mechanics and system engineering.
- The opportunity to contribute to technologies from early feasibility and prototype development through product integration.
- Collaboration with international engineering teams, technology partners and specialists in semiconductor equipment.
- A technically challenging role with significant scope for ownership and innovation.
- A long-term opportunity within an established high-technology development environment.
About the Team
You will join a specialized development team responsible for the next generation of laser-sustained plasma light sources. The team works across the complete development lifecycle, from new concepts and prototype construction to qualification, production transfer, continuous improvement and integration into semiconductor inspection tools.
