Stax Talent is working with a well-funded deep tech company in the energy sector to hire an experienced industrial mechanic for its prototyping and test lab.
The opportunity
Our client is developing large-scale superconducting magnet systems for a next-generation energy application. Their lab is where designs become real hardware: vacuum chambers, cryogenic systems, test fixtures and superconducting coils. Builds and tests happen every week.
This is a hands-on role at the heart of the engineering team. You’ll work alongside magnet, mechanical, manufacturing and cryogenics engineers, and help set the standard for how the lab operates.
What you’ll be doing
- Assembling test fixtures, vacuum chambers, cryostats and magnet components to a high standard of precision.
- Running and maintaining vacuum systems, including backing and turbo pumps, gauges and helium leak testing.
- Installing and operating cryocoolers, and handling liquid nitrogen safely.
- Supporting coil builds and test campaigns from set-up to tear-down.
- Making small parts and modifications, and feeding practical improvements back to the design team.
- Supporting the manufacture of superconducting coils and joints.
- Keeping the lab organised, equipment maintained and work properly documented.
- Helping build a strong safety and quality culture.
What we’re looking for
- 5+ years of experience in a multidisciplinary, fast-paced hardware development environment.
- Completed vocational training as an Industriemechaniker, Feinwerkmechaniker or similar, or a Techniker/Meister qualification, or equivalent experience.
- Hands-on precision assembly of vacuum systems: pumps, gauges, seals, fittings and leak testing.
- The ability to read, critically assess and create technical drawings.
- An independent way of working, with thorough documentation.
- English at B1 level or above, including technical English.
Highly relevant experience
- Cryocoolers or work in a cryogenic lab.
- Superconducting magnets, scientific instruments, space hardware or aerospace test equipment.
- Workshop machinery such as lathe, mill and welding.
- Fluent German and English.
- A crane or forklift licence.
What’s on offer
- Hands-on work on first-of-a-kind hardware.
- A key role in shaping how a growing lab operates.
- A competitive package and modern lab facilities.
