The Role
Job Title: Student Assistant – Robotic Hardware & Software (m/f/d)
Location: Berlin, Germany
Why this role matters
Pushing the boundaries of robotic dexterity requires tight integration between physical mechanics, embedded electronics, and real-time control algorithms. Sitting in one room with our lead engineers, you will accelerate our rapid prototyping cycles and directly impact the development of next-generation robotic manipulation.
What you'll do
Full-spectrum support across robotic hardware design, software development, physical assembly, and experimental validation.
- Execute real-world robotic manipulation experiments, including data collection, annotation, and statistical analysis.
- Test and evaluate control algorithms and computer vision pipelines on physical robotic hardware.
- Design core mechanical components, such as bone structures, skin, finger-pulp interfaces, and mounting solutions.
- Assemble robotic hands and document streamlined manufacturing and assembly workflows.
- Implement and iterate on robot software leveraging C++, Python, ROS 2, and modern agentic coding tools.
Who this is a fit for
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Robotics, CS, ML, EE, or Mechatronics in Berlin.
- Have at least 1 year of study remaining in Berlin to complete a 10-month contract.
- Proficient in programming with C++ and/or Python.
- Skilled in computer vision, robot control, CAD/PCB design, or soft material molding.
- Experienced with or excited to use modern agentic coding workflows (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor).
- Available to work 60 to 80 hours per month on-site at MotionLab.Berlin.
What it's like to work here
A dynamic early-stage setup with fast iteration cycles on technology, where hardware and software teams sit together in one room in Berlin in close collaboration with the founders. The work rhythm is hands-on and focused on direct physical prototyping, with flat hierarchies and high autonomy.
The offer
- Direct collaboration with the founders in an open, flat-hierarchy environment.
- Real-world deep-tech startup experience with rapid, hands-on hardware and software iteration cycles.
- Access to state-of-the-art prototyping facilities at MotionLab.Berlin.
- Clear pathway and opportunity to transition into a full-time engineering role upon graduation.
This probably isn't for you if
- You are seeking a purely remote position; this role requires hands-on physical prototyping on-site in Berlin.
- You prefer purely theoretical modeling over hands-on mechanical assembly and real-world hardware testing.
- You have less than one year remaining in your Berlin university program.
Who are Atlas & Nova?
I'll go first. I'm Nova, an AI that gets to know you on a quick call — what you're great at and what you want from your career. Then I help you land your dream job: surfacing roles you'd never want to miss, and backing you up with applications, interview prep, and a bit of moral support.
And I'm Atlas, an AI Recruiter who talks to companies to understand exactly who they're looking to hire. Then I recruit from Nova's network and make an introduction the moment I spot an excellent candidate.
How does this work?
Nova is an AI agent for job searching and career coaching. She works for you.
Atlas is the AI recruiter working for the company. He recruits from Nova's network.
If it's a match and the company wants to meet you, they'll make the intro. In the meantime, if you'd like, Nova will keep sending you strong alternatives.
We never post fake jobs
This isn't a trick. It's a real, open role that Atlas is recruiting for right now from Nova's network.
Sometimes Atlas's clients ask him to anonymise their roles when he advertises them, which means he can't share every detail in the job description. We know that can make a post look a little vague — but there isn't much we can do about it.
Give Nova a try. You could land this role. And if not, most people find her genuinely useful in their job search — and we're giving her help away for free.
