Job Advertisement: Grid Connections Manager
Overview
My client are a fast-growing developer of large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) based just outside Munich. Founded by experienced energy and industry leaders and backed by a reputable investor, they have built a pipeline of three BESS projects totaling 2.6 GW, all connecting to the grid at 380 kV through TSO Tennet. Thir largest project, a 1 GW / 4 GWh system, carries a budget of approximately EUR 600 million.
With the first project now advancing to the LNTP order stage with Tennet and the MTP application to follow, we are scaling our team of around 20 professionals. Operating under an EPC model, our in-house team leads procurement, technical specification, and construction supervision, while detailed engineering and substation implementation are managed by appointed EPC contractors.
To support their continued growth, they are seeking a Grid Connections Manager to take ownership of our grid connection processes and relationships, ensuring the successful delivery of their ambitious projects.
Responsibilities
As the Grid Connections Manager, you will play a pivotal role in the success of our projects by:
- Acting as the primary interface with Tennet across all three BESS projects.
- Writing and reviewing technical specifications for grid connection and substation equipment.
- Assessing supplier and EPC proposals to ensure alignment with technical specifications.
- Leading transformer sizing and specification efforts.
- Supporting AAV/NAV contract discussions, circuit breaker layout, and grid studies.
- Collaborating with GIS and AAS systems as part of the broader engineering process.
Qualifications
To excel in this role, you should bring:
- Experience: At least five years of experience in grid or power systems engineering, with hands-on exposure to 380 kV projects. Candidates with wind or solar backgrounds without 380 kV experience are unlikely to be a fit.
- Language Skills: Fluency in German, with a strong understanding of German grid and TSO processes.
- Team Orientation: A cross-functional, team-first attitude and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
- Reliability: A track record of commitment and follow-through. Given the critical nature of this role, we value candidates who demonstrate genuine dedication and accountability.
