Senior Software Engineer, Connectivity, C++

Professional Overview

Ever imagined shaping the future of transportation and seeing your work redefine urban mobility? At Vay, we're making that a reality by pioneering remote driving technology on public streets, enabling customers to summon a car with no one inside. With live operations in Las Vegas and rapid scaling fueled by a strategic investment of up to $410 million from Grab, our mission is to replace private car ownership with a faster, cleaner, door-to-door mobility model that is genuinely transformative. We're proud to be the first to roll out driverless vehicles in both Europe and the USA on public roads, operating the second-largest commercial driverless car fleet in the Western World, with thousands of successful trips completed and significant expansion plans across the US and Europe.

As a Senior Software Engineer, Connectivity, you will be instrumental in building and optimizing the crucial networking backbone that powers Vay's world-first remote driving system. The Connectivity team is responsible for the intricate, low-latency real-time video streaming and data transport systems that seamlessly link our vehicles to our remote teleoperators across diverse cellular and satellite networks. This is a hands-on engineering role where your expertise directly translates into the performance, reliability, and safety of our entire remote driving experience.

You will dive deep into latency-sensitive distributed systems, rigorously testing your solutions on state-of-the-art hardware. Leveraging real production data, you'll investigate incidents, drive continuous performance improvements, and constantly push the boundaries of our network stack. If you're passionate about building something real, visible, and genuinely transformative in a high-impact, pioneering environment, Vay offers an unparalleled opportunity to innovate at the cutting edge of mobility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect, build, and optimize the critical networking backbone essential for Vay's remote driving operations.
  • Design, develop, and maintain low-latency real-time video streaming and data transport systems.
  • Ensure the highest standards of performance, reliability, and safety across our connectivity infrastructure, spanning cellular and satellite networks.
  • Work extensively with latency-sensitive distributed systems, rigorously testing solutions on state-of-the-art hardware.
  • Utilize real production data to investigate incidents, pinpoint areas for improvement, and continuously enhance the performance and robustness of our network stack.

Eligibility & Requirements

  • Proven proficiency in C++ for developing high-performance, real-time systems.
  • Extensive experience with network programming, including deep understanding of protocols and data transport layers (e.g., UDP, TCP, custom protocols).
  • Demonstrated expertise in building and optimizing low-latency distributed systems.
  • Familiarity with cellular and satellite network technologies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a relentless focus on system performance, reliability, and safety in critical applications.
  • Ability to analyze and work with production data for incident investigation, debugging, and continuous improvement initiatives.
